Hopefully this will be the first of many official meetings. We had a tour in December, but that's not the first meeting. That was a tour. We did sit in a vice principal's office and talk to her, and we did set it up ahead of time, so the distinction here is slim. But this seems more official. Less like shopping, and more like we're committed. This meeting is about creating an actual plan. Not a plan for the school year, just for orientation day. She's not yet enrolled, not officially. I really want her to have a good day and feel like she could be happy as a student there.
Last night I drafted a list of concerns and questions. Below are my two biggest concerns:
*** That there will be too much emphasis on the amount of work that is expected and how seriously students need to take their homework. This is a primary concern because B is already of a mind that she will fail. If she's going to fail, why try?
***That if there is no plan for B, and she is randomly assigned to a group, that she will end up spending half the day crying in the bathroom, feeling overwhelmed by the experience.
I just realized that if I leave for work right now, I can walk. I need the exercise!
